Arlington, VA – The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) has announced the launch of its annual holiday safety campaign, focused on home and electrical safety awareness during the holidays.

The winter holiday season is an exciting time of year filled with decorative displays and festive celebrations. Unfortunately, it is also a time when there is an increase in residential fires and electrical accidents caused by the increase in energy used to power lighting displays and Christmas trees, as well as the energy used to prepare meals and host friends and family in the home.

This year’s campaign, Make Safety a Tradition, is dedicated to providing information that will increase consumer awareness and help keep communities safe this season.

“For millions of people, the holiday season is a time to reflect on family traditions that have shaped our holiday memories and celebrations since childhood,” said ESFI president Brett Brenner. “This year, ESFI and The Home Depot invite families everywhere to introduce a new tradition – a tradition of safety – that will help protect homes and families while creating an opportunity to spend extra time with loved ones and reinforce safety-minded behaviors year after year.”

ESFI's annual holiday safety campaign offers a variety of resources to help families and communities take steps to encourage in-home electrical safety awareness before, during, and after the holiday season. Resources created for this campaign include news releases, safety tips, fact sheets, broadcast public services announcements, and b-roll footage.
